I wonder if that article writer has ever set foot on a boat of any kind.

How insulting how he cuts and splices quotes and hearsay. I will not take him seriously as uses information he takes from forums and then acts like it's all backed by facts. I won't hold a grudge against this Michael Field as one bad journalist doesn't make the rest of the professional journalists bad.
He treats this tragedy like something on a rag sheet!

Re: Schooner Nina - MERGED 3 THREADS
I wouldn't worry too much FON. This twat Rimmington has completely discredited himself with his lead keel comment. I've personally never heard of his sailing feats but he was once a town mayor and now a farmer, plenty of qualifications for a sailing commentary (not).

sadly this is the nature of sensationalist journalism these days.....why let facts get in the way of a good story!
what ever has happened,is happening, and will happen ,by the grace of god,and the god of sailors i wish them peace , luck and optimism.

Nice. You write a "news" article based on open forum messages and quotes from an alcoholic ex mayor after buying him a couple of drinks.

Re: Schooner Nina - MERGED 3 THREADS
Were drinks mentioned in the story? Not sure I saw that.
Was interesting to read about the hogging and the 3 years on the hard. Everyone has been treating this as if the Nina was a real Gold platter just because of her age.
What's the truth?

Just a clarification -- it wasn't three years on the hard. Sounds like it was three years without being hauled out. >>
"The 21-metre Nina had not been out of the water for three years and, while it was moored in Whangarei, experts had noted that its hull had warped."

Re: Schooner Nina - MERGED 3 THREADS
I think the article could have balance in it. Perhaps we are controlled in this thread by the emotions of having family reading.
certainly when the Bounty went down we were able to much more critically assess its situation.
In the assessment of Bounty on this and another sailing forum (that I contribute to) most of the salient points we discussed, or discovered were later brought up in the official hearings by the Coast Guard.
Similar to the Bounty, we seem to have unreasonably high regard towards old wooden boats and prejudice against anything newly built.
Without being able to discuss it openly we fail in our ability to learn from this type of disaster.
