Re: Sat2Chart

BigAl.NZ, are you using my SasPlanet? And is it installed in C:\Sasplanet\ ? Show me a screenshot of that directory?

After making thousands of satellite imagery charts using Sat2Chart, which automates the process, I recommend you use the Sat2Chart program. And you should use the SasPlanet version available from the GdayII website which has the 'tweaks' to work seamlessly with Sat2Chart. Also download and install the Sat2Chart program, ooRex ..., and gdal.

Download all from: https://www.gdayii.ca/Downloads/

Yes - I found a simple tutorial on YouTube and got to to go :-)

Two questions:

1. Can I generate GeoTIFF?
2. How do I insert a waypoint on a existing route?

Thanks

Al

Re: Sat2Chart

Hi Al.
  1. In the SAS Selection Manager, on the Stitch tab, there's the ability to do something ("Output format") with GeoTIFF, but I've never tried using it. It's not something we normally do with Sat2Chart.
  2. Presumably you made your route with OpenCPN. To insert an additional waypoint, just right-click on the route & select "Insert waypoint". Then you should be able to drag that waypoint where you want it.

If you're NOT able to drag your waypoint, then double-click on ANY waypoint, to bring up the Waypoint Properties dialog. Move this dialog off to the side so it's out of the way, & then you should be able to move any waypoints you want. OpenCPN has the option to lock all waypoints unless this Waypoint Properties dialog is visible. I turn this option on, so my routes don't get accidentally modified.

Very easy to download sat images and make mbTiles with QGIS - **IF** you only want rectangular areas. You can select the area manually, or import a complex GPX, and it'll still just calculate the furthest 4 points. That may be sufficient for small areas or specific anchorages, but forces very large mbTiles of areas that don't add any value.

Another (much lesser) issue with QGIS is that you can't skip zoom levels. If you choose 10-18, it will provide all 9 of those levels whereas every other one would be sufficient.

If anyone has come up with a QGIS workflow that can handle polygons to define the desired area, please chime in.

The overarching Sat2Chart problem is that it only works on Windows, and even then up to version 10. QGIS is multi-platform. That's not at all a knock on Jon's efforts. Standing up an old Windows machine with its usual nagging helpful prompts isn't my idea of weekend fun.

Please note that Sat2Chart is at version 16.0.2 (as if that were a detriment) and the author is Paul Higgins and not Jon.

Terry
Version 10 was reference to the Windows version supported by Sat2Chart.

Jon is Jon Hacking of s/v Ocelot and his efforts to provide some documentation of Sat2Chart at Chart Downloads

I've gotten some help/response from Paul in the FB group.

Re: Sat2Chart

Good morning.
I have two problems :-). This is the first

I have tried to install
ooRexx-5.0.0-12286.windows.x86_32.exe
and
ooRexx.5.0.0.11579-x86_32.exe
but the problem is the same.
SAT2CHART.V16.0.4.0 start well only if I click on Sat2Chart.rex in the folder of the program.
If I launch the file rexxtry.rex it show me version 5.0.0

the problem started after i tried to solve my second problem: The only version that works is Sat2Chart.V11.0.7.0 . Later versions cause me errors but that's another story .
Thanks for your help

Re: Sat2Chart

Good morning.
This is my second big problem:

(sorry for errors in italian, if I try to switch in english, the program return a "fatal error" and closes)
I tried with different versions of sasplanet but the problem doesn't change. If I try with Mbtiles, it doesn't tell me anything and after 30 seconds it closes.
Same error with previous versions (ver.14, ver.12). The only one that works for me is 11.0.7.0. With Mbtiles it works fine and also works fine with Kap but without tiles.
If I use the tiles option I get this error:

Can you help me ?
Thank you
