sailing routes for powerboats

Hi all, after 50 yrs sailing we can afford to move to a trawler first in the Med but later we like expand our horizon, first arround europe which i know from sailing, later maybe crossing oceans. I am used to use sailing routes , pilot charts and the books from cornel BUT now i need some advice. Powerboating is much like sailing in respect of current wind direction but we can look into calms, doldrums etc but have to consider swell . If i check the typical crossing from canaries into carib most sailor prefer december but then you have a lot swell from the winter storms in the north, actually april would be better for a trawler.
So in general are there any books or charts for offshore powerboating ? Voyaging under power is very general in this respect

Re: sailing routes for powerboats

I would look at commercial shipping routes. As I'm a sailor, I haven't been looking for where to find that info. I do have an old book from the British Admiralty - Sailing Routes of the World - or something like that. It's on my boat and I won't be back there until after winter. It has two charts in it, one for sailing routes for sailing boats and one for sailing routes for power boats - aimed at commercial shipping. You may want to check out the British Admiralty Sailing Directions.

This is the book - 'Ocean Passages for the World' https://www.admiralty.co.uk/publicat...-for-the-world

Don't know about the present edition but at one time it had effectively three parts, sailing ship routes, steamship routes, and the one that may be of interest to you - routes for low powered steamers.

Just before I retired from deliveries, and let me subscription lapse, Predict Wind PRO had motor vessel routing. What was nifty, is that it allowed the user to enter what could best be labled a 'powerboat polar diagram'. You entered flat water speed and the SOG for various sea states.

IMHO routing a displacement hull is not that hard, assume it is a Hunter. The challenge is working out the needed fuel. That is where the powervessel polar could come in handy.
