Sailing from Panama to San Diego

We are planning to move a boat from Panama to San Diego in January.
Preferred routes??

The 2 most common I know of are either a near coastal bash all the way or a long offshore run to Hawaii then to CA.

Coming out of Panama you have to go WEST, to get out of the whirlpool. While you come out, you have still pretty much winds from the south, sometimes from behind. Go ahead till aprox. 89° West and then, head north. It is a tedious sailing now, since you are in the wrong direction. At this time of the year, the northerns come down and everyone is heading to Sea of Cortez and southern Mexico. But you can tack north! Go visit MagBay...
