Route Planning

My wife and I are planning to step off for awhile next fall, first to the Caribbean for a season then off through the Panama Canal and out to the south pacific.
What cruising route guide books and cruise planning books would you recommend?
Destination guides?
We have a general plan for some major destinations we are aiming for, but also know that weather and seasons can dictate changes in short term plans, which often times tend to lead you to even more interesting experiences. So we're not stuck to a tight itinerary, we're also looking to have alternatives if we find ourselves in a favorable situation to do so.
Many times it's the places you didn't plan to go that turn out to be the most memorable experiences.

Re: Route Planning

There is a fine crossing / cruising guide for every ocean/sea.

Google for 'Indian Ocean Crossing guide', Pacific Crossing Guide', 'Atlantic Crossing Guide' ... etc.

Such books always have chapters on relevant weather / anchorages / countries / health / etc. matters.

They are a good start for making a very general plan. Then you can concentrate your search on the hard bits and specific regions that you want to explore.

Cheers,
b.

Re: Route Planning

Thanks for the feedback, now that the date is growing closer my spouse, who's a dyed in the wool planner is getting a bit stressed, she needs something to plan with.
Just so we can change the plan......
This is a good start.
