Reports from sea suggest that while the original Dubarries were excellent in the last few years the quality has gone downhill... there have been a few comments here on CF about it... and elsewhere..

Sea Rover II: What Worked Well and What Didn't This Season

I find the comments on here re the strength of the currents quite interesting. I've always found the 'West Wind Drift' to be just that.... not very strong at all.. this matches with the current info on windy.com.

Similar experience with the Peru .. aka Humbolt .. Current.... quite noticable when we crossed into it in 2014... drop in sea temp, fog, massive increase in bird life.
2016.... no sign of it... no drop in sea temp.... nada. That was the summer (15/16) when they had all the disease in the mussel farms and salmoneras which was down to the high sea temps in Golfo de Corcovado area.
Going north last year the Peru was helping us but nothing dramatic..

Rucksta your comment ' It seems your relationship with facts is rather tenuous. It leaves me to suspect that your relationship with truth is challenged.' is well off beam.... I know Moo... he has the runs on the board....

I think I have also met HR42.... the cheese lasted almost to Ecuador....

Yes such boots can work great, as can all of the other cheap 'fake rubber' types. They are a favourite of commercial fisherman too.

But what they do not do is breathe. You sweat like crazy in them, your feet smell, etc, etc. It can be very unpleasant and limits the useful range of the boots.

Re: Route from Queensland (AUS) to Panama

The best thing about the Canadian made Bata boots ( the white 'meat worker' ones ) as sold in COVEPA is the heavy tread... excellent for going ashore to run lines.. I wore a pair daily for 4 weeks once when day sailing... ended up near crippled due to lack of support in the arch when I finaly went ashore for a walk due to lack of arch support.. that was wearing them all day long ... not just working 'watch and watch'....

Boots for serious cold weather work ? I have these https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/revie...y-arctic-sport

Last time crossing from NZ to Chile wore a pair of these the whole way.. with socks https://www.amazon.com/Teva-Mens-Tan...0055AUT4C?th=1
Its not as if it's a cold weather crossing....

I second the muck boots. Excellent.

And I haven't worn foulie pants let alone North of 40S ever

The thing I like about abbatoir boots is that they have no linings so if you get wet feet you just wipe the boots with a towel and they are dry again. Good wool socks are required though.
