I have been using a CATALYST waterproof case for my
iPhone 6+. This
iPhone has NO
water resistance, the slightest
water will get into the case. For casual spills and light water like a bit if spray or light rain it works OK. The one time I fell in (dock side board broke under me) I was out of the water in under a minute but the
phone was ruined despite the case.
At the time I did quite a bit of
research and found the Catalyst top rated. But they are pricey and I find they need to be replaced every year or so. I have taken to using some silicone grease to help seal the joints. But also the little rubber plugs over the connection points tend to break or disappear. Last I checked
replacements were not
sold in
USA or
Canada but were elsewhere.
So a truly waterproof, IP68 or 67 in the basic devices is really important.
I have now bought an Samsung Galaxy 10+ to use as my main
navigation device. Still loading
software and
charts. Its a bit of
work to use the different interface. However the
phone was $350 refurbished, I cant tell it from new. It is IP68 and there are many inexpensive waterproof/shockproof cases available.
I will eventually buy a newer iPhone, but the Galaxy will be my main nav device.
