Raymarine E120 Problem

Hello,

On a recent sail from Cayman Islands to Belize my Raymarine E120 stopped recognizing my Navionics chart card for the region. I had a chart card from the Med that I tried and it worked fine, so I assumed something happened to the card. I ordered a new one from the US which I received about 10 days later. I tried it and it didn't work either. I find it hard to believe that a new chart card would not be working as well.

Raymarine says it is probably a chart card problem and Navionics hasn't responed to multiple calls or emails.

Has anyone seen anything like this or know of any possible solutions.

Thank you

Stuck in Belize. It could be worse.

I have heard of incidents where one of the pins down inside the slot have bent enough to cause a problem, however, I haven't directly experienced it and I can't say for sure if it was E or C series. I was told that the pin could be straitened with a small probe. Good Luck, hope you get it resolved.

Probably not a pin problem since the Med card worked.

I would try a factory reset if you haven't already.

For the blanking problem in the dimming mode, that is a design problem. I sent my E120 back and it was replaced.

Yes - that's one of the design flaws of the CompactFlash system. You can do a visual inspection of the card slot in the chartplotter, but if it was as simple as a bent pin, then chances are no chart cards would work.

It could be that one or more pins is pushed down just enough that it doesn't quite engage with the metal socket of one of the pinholes in some CF cards. Make a note if there's a difference in memory size of the cards that work and those that don't. If a 256MB card works, but not a 512MB card, then it's possible that the high-order address pin is not making contact with the corresponding hole in the CF card.

Check the card in an external CF card reader hooked up to your PC & see if you can see the various folders & files. If you cannot see any files or the PC just refuses to recognise it then you have a card issue otherwise take the matter up with Raymarine

e.g. looking at my Gold XL3 US south east & Bahamas CF card, I see a Navionics\Charts folder containing three .nv2 carto files, as well as .xl3 file at the root of card.

Note although probably not an associated issue I have had problems with a particular Gold XL9 card being read following upgrade to latest firmware on my C series MFD - see this thread in which the problem is identified as a Navionics library compatibility issue.
