qtVlm vs. OpenCPN

Hello,

What's your experience using qtVlm for active navigation? I'm interested in reliability, accuracy, usability, etc compared to OpenCPN.

I've been an OpenCPN user for 5+ years and have been very happy with it. I recently discovered qtVlm (installed Linux version) and there are several things I like about it (including how maps display, touchscreen interface) however won't be able to try it as a chart plotter until spring when the boat goes back in the water.

Any experience with the Companion app?

Re: qtVlm vs. OpenCPN

Have used qtvlm for weather routing and found it very intuitive and reliable. Same in ocpn is not my experience, could hardly calculate a routing without many trials in ocpn and stick therefore with qtvlm.
Main reason why I don't use qtvlm also for navigation is that neither navionics nor cm93 are supported (need to check if this is still the case, have not used it in last months).
On the few occasions where I needed help from the supplier I found the responsiveness and support very good. Believe development is a very small team and it's not open source, so don't know what would happen when not enough funding is gathered.

Re: qtVlm vs. OpenCPN

qtVlm supports many charts types, including CM93s (or Navionics as mbtiles).
