Re: Position reporting map - Yotreps died

Bill, that worked

Have you tried entering a series of older waypoints using a .kml file? I thought I saw somewhere on the Farkwar site that you could this, although I don't see it right now.

Re: Position reporting map - Yotreps died

Glad you got it working Paul.
FYI, I just tested today with the hidden footer in Airmail and it is working. I agree that Airmail certainly doesn't make it easy to setup. Farkwar was just trying to keep things the same for cruisers because he understands how much we all hate change.
As for uploading a KML file, I've never tried it but if you click on Boats/My Boat in Farkwar you should be able to drop a KML or GPX file on the map to upload a track history.

Paul, I'm glad that worked for you. [Sorry for my delayed response; I didn't receive any emails even though I'm subscribed to this thread...]

I don't recall trying a .kml file.

Right under the map on your boat's Farkwar page, there is a note:

Quote:
Drop .gpx and .kml files on the map to import.
Perhaps that will make it faster for you to fill in your history?

Cheers! Bill

We also do it by email. It can also be fussy about how the coordinates are entered. I've had some issues with spaces as I grab mine off an iPhone app called MYGPS oordinates rather than transcribe them by hand. Here is our email template using a slightly different nomenclature.
You provide a better example, MacBlaze...

I didn't think to include a sample with the Destination syntax...

I agree the position coordinates and those 5 dashes are the components that most often break the syntax from our experience... [We call it shooting blanks since no position report is posted on Farkwar because it cannot parse our incorrectly formatted email.]

Our coordinates are copied from OpenCPN on a laptop computer, and fortunately that works. [so far...]

Because we have broken our own reports on occasion, I subscribed our email address to our own boat ['Follow'] so we receive a confirmation email that a new position has been reported. [Cross-check...] When we are on sat mail, I don't download the email; the header is enough confirmation... This works well for us when we are away from the internets for periods of time...

Cheers! Bill
