Polar Creation

Does anyone know of any software that can record data from the boat, app. wind speed, app wind angle, and boat speed, over a period of time, and create polars from this data?

Maybe it would have a full set of data, but over time, it should be fairly good and with a little help from a human, could sort out any issues.

Any thoughts?

Most race software packages are capable of developing boat specific polars.

Explorer is one I'm familiar with. Can develop polars for different wind and wave conditions and also different sails (i.e. develop one polar using your regatta main, another using the offshore main etc).

Takes a lot of time to build up anything meaningful. Great for serious racing teams but a huge effort and a limited value for most.

For your boat, I would suggest getting the polars from the designer - he is sure to have run a VPP when designing the boat. VPP derived polars are pretty accurate these days.

There is a free windows program named polauto Polaires auto

The forum is in french, I don't know if there is an english version for this. Seems to work well, and if you ask surely the developer can make an english version for that.
