Pittsburgh to the Gulf

Am considering the purchase of a motoryacht with 4ft draft.
Instead of trucking the boat, expensive, is it possible to cruise from Pittsburgh, Pa., to the gulf?

Plus - it should be all down current, I'd think. If you had a few months to spare, you might only need a few gallons of fuel.

The only bit against the current is the Tennessee River from the Ohio to the junction 215 miles, then the rest is down hill.

And Bletso is correct. Only a bit of going against the current. It's a great trip.

Re: Pittsburgh to the Gulf

As you probably know, but it is worth brushing up on Locking Procedures, times, fees etc, as well as any Air Draft issues due to high water.
With all the rain/snow runoff there is bound to be a LOT of junk in the water so a Lookout is always advisable.
Another issue to brush up on is the Different Rules of the Road and Channel Markings when dealing with Inland River Systems.
Dealing with all the Commercial Traffic can be deadly if you do not know who has the right of way on Inland Rivers.
Have a great trip!!!!!

There's a lot of good info under "The Great Loop."

Now would not be a good time to go due to inclement weather and early spring can bring flooding and very swift water. Probably early summer would be your best bet. It is a beautiful trip.
