You can do it any time of the year but it is a bit of of a port hopping trip. However, you need to remember cyclone season in the southern
Indian Ocean is November to March/April, so I would be very careful of going further than Richards Bay up the channel during that period. The trip involves quite a bit of motoring when there are periods of no
wind. You also, from Port Elizabeth right up to Richards Bay must keep to the 20 to 50 metre
depth contours (just off the shore-break) to keep in the counter
current. If you go further
offshore, you will most likely end up going backwards with the strong flowing Mozambique/Agulhas
current.
