Offshore Navigator Question

I have a current copy Offshore Navigator and have never really used it much but can't seem to figure out how to make the charts for my area seamlessly fit together for route planning?

I find this software very cimbersome and not very intuitive. I can root my phone and do other "techy" things but this software is like a blast from 1986..? Are their better more user intuitive software package out there I should try instead?

Clearly I am missing something? I have the charts for the NE loaded into the program but when I scroll off a chart it does not move onto the next one. Should I just can Offshore Navigator and try Open CPN or another one?

Also which GPS dongle would you recommend with a Windows 7 machine with 64 bit operating system? I have two dongles and neither one work with this computer..

Re: Offshore Navigator Question

Seamless connection of raster charts requires "quilting". I don't think Offshore Navigator is a quiliting product.
There are quite a few software options that will quilt raster charts (one is in my signature, plenty of others to choose from).

BU-353 (and it's sister product ND-100) both reportedly work for our 64 bit Windows users.

Re: Offshore Navigator Question

Maine,

I've used ON for years. While it is a bit quirky and cumbersome, and is NOT a quilting product, I still like it and don't plan to change.

Be aware that when you have an attached GPS and are in the "Follow Vessel" mode, the program will bring up new charts along the path automatically.

But, when in the planning mode, you have to do it by hand.

I find that if you put the curser off the chart in the desired direction, then right click, one option is "Charts at the Curser", and it will list all charts in the library which cover that point (where the cursor is). You can then select the one you want.

Re: Offshore Navigator Question

I am a very happy user of Polar View (Polar Navy - Marine Navigation Software), which quilts raster charts, vector charts, and even raster with vector charts.

I use map tech navigator pro. It has done it all for me for many years. What do you have NEMA set at for your GPS
