Re: NYC to Bahamas and back 4-5 weeks

East Coast has 1000s of hurricaine holes...Bahamas not so many and their will be 100s of boats with small anchors crowded into the few places if a hurricaine is bearing down..do not compare the two places

Re: NYC to Bahamas and back 4-5 weeks

I have cruised both...going from Florida to Bahamas sailboats often wait 5 to 7 days for each crossing for a weather window
Sailors when pushed on a tight schedule can make tragic errors

First while it is “technically” hurricane season, early storms are usually weak and as I recall are south of the Virgin Islands.

Second schedules are dangerous things. Like someone posted, consider engaging a delivery captain to either bring the boat down. Or back up.

You would sail down on your schedule, and sail the Bahamas until a specific date. On that date you and the boat would be in Nassau (cheap flights). On that date a delivery captain (cough cough like me) and crew would meet the boat and assume command for delivery. You spend the night in a hotel to wash up and fly home the next day.

The issue with you sailing back, is there can be a storm that does not follow the norms. One may need to head to FLA, SC or some other port to duck a storm. With a schedule you do not have the flexibility.

It sounds like the vessel is well equipped, so raising a volunteer crew should not be an issue.

Re: NYC to Bahamas and back 4-5 weeks

Depending on when and how else you want to use the boat, what if you shot straight down to the Bahamas, or the US east coast and then reprovisioned and fixed any issues found along the way, and then took your time in the Bahamas? There's a lot of ground to cover. When you're down to a week left, head back to Savannah? Someplace in the SE US, and have the boat hauled and kept there over the winter. Then in the spring, either bring it back home, or reverse the procedure, take it back to the Bahamas to see the rest of it, and spend the last two weeks bringing the boat back home to NY.

If it can work with your sailing plans, that takes all the time constraint out of things and gives you plenty of time in the Bahamas, so there's no rush.
