A number, or letter, chart symbol in a circle, indicates it's fixed ie not floating. I've always refered to them as "markers" rather then bouys, which are floating

Re: Number with a dot over it in a circle??

Thanks for the CHS version, it answered a question I’ve not been able to find in Chart 1. Pg 55 , “foul area dangerous to surface navigation”. I’ve seen it on CHS charts and stupidly thought the symbols would match USA symbols.

“1” with a dot over it in a circle

OK, gotta admit, when I read that, I imagined a 1 and dot, both in the circle. I see now that it could also be read as "a dot in a circle over a 1". In that case: fixed point , possibly with a route marker number.

Here is an attempt at posting it
If you look along the southern shore you will see lots of the symbols they are marking filings forms and bars. On the north in the narrows you will see them on the shore marking towers for the power lines.

Do you mean those that say "RA TARGET" next to them?

OP: Are these the symbols you mean?

Check the bowditch manual . Every USS has a bowditch manual on the bridge . Every sailor should stowe a copy at the navigation station of their vessel !

Re: Number with a dot over it in a circle??

I'm guessing steamboat's pic shows what the OP (where'd he go) is wondering about.

Vector chart, the letter "i" for information, is it not? Right click or press and hold for a context menu or popup.

Anyway, that's the first thing that popped in my head reading the original post. Probably nothing about that on Chart 1 or Bowditch.

Confuses some old salts I guess.
