Re: Non-firearm weapons on board.

Montanan thank ou so much for your detailed explanations. And this is why I will never visit the US as the are definitively rotten like all so called "western" countries.

I was at JFK and th USVI once but it was reraly a pain to see the guys in uniform believing that their uniform marks rrthem as god-alike.

Btw. we do also have "supervised thinking" in the EU and degeneration goes on rapidly for a "brave new world" to overcome and US citicens leaving states like california.

Re: Non-firearm weapons on board.

When I did the Great Loop solo, I took along a high power hunting sling shot with a supply of 1/2" steel balls.
At close range that thing would do some damage and hopefully make the attacker rethink.

In some places this is certainly true. In other places it may very well be completely wrong. Every nation has its own laws, and every nation can decide for itself what it considers a "weapon," and what it does not. You cannot ever make blanket assumptions about what will be considered a weapon. Especially when you are talking about something that LOOKS like a gun, and is made to fire a projectile! You need to check the laws for each and every nation that you wish to visit.

Just a quickie with regard to the Bahamas:

spear guns are not illegal in the bahamas. You just can't use them for hunting fish or lobster.

Bahamian sling or Hawaiian sling spear guns are just fine.

Sorry but did you say the Mediterranean? the only protection you will need is sun block

Oher than perhaps avoiding Syria, Lebanon and Algiers and not drinking the water in Egypt you will be fine.

The culture is slightly different but you get used to dishes like Escargot.

If you think the so called "western" countries are rotten you are going to have a very hard time in most of the so called third world countries; east, west, north and south. You don't know what degeneration is or what uniforms do until you visit some other "supervised" countries.

As an inveterant punster and word multi-user, I appreciate the following comments.

Well, technically, the ones directly above this one...

However, you probably heard of a zip gun at one time or other in your life; this is the spear gun equivalent.

If it has a means of propulsion and can make the spear go faster than you can jab it or throw it, it's a gun

Making silly gender jokes doesn't make you look clever or experienced, it just makes you look silly.

Re: Non-firearm weapons on board.

I have been very tempted to buy a paintball gun just to keep big stink boats away, the law on water is 5 knots and no wake within 50 meters of other boats, whether stationery, ie fishing or diving etc,. We have a 6 m sailing yacht, which gets very disturbed by boats passing unnecessarily close, i reckon if i can reach them with a pretty coloured paint ball, then they're way too close.

Re: Non-firearm weapons on board.

Good thread. Reminds me of the time my wife & I attended a 2 day seminar at some hotel in north Texas. Second day we were waiting for the venue to open and one of the attendees mentioned that he remembered me as being the policeman that was there the previous night. Seems that he had been sitting behind us and my concealed holster hadn't been so concealed, after all. No, I am not a cop but I do pack when I'm not sure of my surroundings. There are a couple of phrases that apply: When seconds count, police are but minutes away and those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. That last from ol' Bennie Squareglasses. I like Texas; it's not as free as I would prefer but it's a damn site better than a lot of other places.

Each country has the right to enact whatever laws they so choose and I in turn have the right to not spend my money with those with whom I disagree.
