I couldn't find it either when I looked last week.

It looks like they upgraded the app, but I can't find the upgrade.. It looks like its called "Nav Module". Strange, I hope it comes back as I use it for my backup..

Android now with Nav Module! | Navionics

Since the last upgrade, it's been an absolute PITA.

Every time you open it, is tries to update the "Base Map". If you are off-line or on a slow cell data connection, it just sits there saying "Initializing please wait".

Its virtually unuseable.

Re: Navionics pull software from Google Play Store?

I was able to stop its attempts to update the basemap by turning off the connection to the internet. Then, at a later time I reconnected and let it do it's update and then updated all the maps.

There was some problem when restarting it, and for some reason I needed to do it twice. What a pain when you only have slow and expensive mobile broadband.

Their software is definitely gone from the Google Play Store, but interestingly it is still on the Apple App Store!

My software - on a Samsung Tab - quit working after it did an (unprompted) update. I looked all through their website and there's no indication of any problems. Sent them an email and I'll report back once they reply. SO frustrating! $50 is a LOT of money for an app! If you're charging that you better make sure it works!

Good news!
Had a very quick and helpful response from Navionics.
They said they had pulled the Android marine software in order to correct some functionality issues. New apps will be available soon.

Cheers all,
Mike

On the dark side...

I have an iPad. It is a bit like me and rather old running on an old IOS. I don't want to "upgrade" to the latest because there are lots of reports about problems.
However, Navionics does not work with older versions of IOS.

Re: Navionics pull software from Google Play Store?

I never use Navionics products. I don't trust the product, I don't trust the company.

I had a Navionics chart that showed a light that had been gone for ten years. I called them, and they pulled the exclamation point, and left the text.

Apparently, there are no cartographers working there, but they still "edit" the charts. Yikes. No, thank you.

Re: Navionics pull software from Google Play Store?

This is unacceptable. If they pulled the new version because it had bugs, why not put the old one back?

This is the problem with all these apps forcing an update. It removes your option to keep running the old version if it works better for you.

If I'd paid $50 for a program, I'd expect to be able to run it for as long as I want, and update ONLY when I want to and when I can be sure the new version is not only stable, but is an improvement. Oh, and, for $50 I'd expect it to work flawlessly the first time and every time.

It boggles the mind that, of all things, a navigation program (!) can just up and fail because the vendor screwed up, and that they haven't immediately remedied it.

For a program made to be used out on the water, on a portable device, to expect a full-time, high-bandwidth network connection for it to work right is absurd.

CaptTom, my view exactly. It's a shame these companies claiming to provide maritime navigational solutions have no comprehension of the environment in which they are used.

Re: Navionics pull software from Google Play Store?

The Google Play application has settings where you can chose whether or not applications should be automatically updated. Also, in android if you have a nandroid backup of the system - provided the previous versions of Navionics or anyother updated program with undesirable features in the new version was included in the backup - restoring the system will solve the problem. If on the other hand, Navionics updates itself when launched, check to see if the auto update can be disabled in the Navionics settings. If not, you can always follow my instructions here and use OpenCPN on your android: Building on Motorola Xoom | Official OpenCPN Homepage

Very odd behaviour from such a prominent company.

Still no comment from their site?
