Navionics on Acer Laptop problems...
Navionics says that I can install the boating app on my laptop with Windows 8.1. When I try it says that my device is not supported and names my device as some Sprint something or other. When I go to the app store in Windows and type "Navionics" in the search bar, Navionics does not come up. Is there anyone that can help me with this issue?

I believe it was removed in 2015, with no plans to restore.
Not tried this myself, but there is an android emulator for windows that might (I do mean might) let you get it from Google play store.

Website says they removed the Windows app back in 2015. Not a complete substitute, but the WebApp has a lot of the same functionality as the phone/tablet based apps now: Navionics Webapp

I haven't looked into it but I am assuming that the webapp needs the web...
If that is the case, that won't work as we are in Mexico and Central America 9 months out of the year with very little internet access and certainly none when we are actually moving and in need of Navionics.

Why pay money for a product that isn't very good anyway? I installed OpenCPN on my Acer/windows laptop and it works great. And it's totally free. I use a USB GPS dongle that I got in a yard sale for $5. I'm sure you can find one on ebay.

I have Open CPN but just unfamiliar with it. Also I have a new Vesper AIS and was not sure if it integrates with Open CPN.

Bret:
The Vesper AIS outputs NMEA, so I'm sure it will integrate with OpenCPN. Someone down there can probably set you up with charts for Mexico and South. If you don't find any, contact me privately.

Why are you saying Navionics isn't very good? Why are you trashing it?

We have been using the vesper AIS feed to our laptop that runs OpenCPN for a number of years now. Perfect!

Ooo yeah, the webapp is not super helpful if you don't have internet, haha. I think iNavX has a windows version and you can download Navionics charts through that -- might be worth looking into.

I tried Iboat, not sure if the same as iboating. It was 170ft off on both laptop and android phone. User interface was horrible. Tech support never answered multiple emails.
