Nav system advice

Just bought a sailboat and I'm looking to upgrade the instruments.

It has an older Garmin GPS, B&G Network Quad and Wind, Simrad AP24 autopilot, and SH Intrepid VHF that uses the GPS position. Everything is NMEA 0183.

I was thinking of getting a B&G Vulcan 7.

Questions... if I get a Vulcan, what's the best way to integrate everything? Do the NMEA 0183 to 2000 adapters work well? I've heard mixed opinions. Can I get multiple instruments in one adapter or do I need an adapter for each instrument?

Can I plug the sensors from the B&G Network instruments straight into the Vulcan (via adapter) or do they have to go to the instrument display first? (I want to minimize the number of actual instruments mounted and prefer if all the data could be sent straight to the Vulcan.)

Any opinions or suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

Re: Nav system advice

Your autopilot is already Simnet which is NMEA2000.

If the old gear works then why?
Spend money on things that make the boat go, sails and skills

Re: Nav system advice

Did not realize SimNet and NMEA 2000 were the same. Is it plug & play same or requireing adapters? It looked like there were a different number of wires.

I'm only wanting to replace the GPS because it is old and unable to update maps.

I'm looking at a Vulcan 7 but then I'd have to get a map card (prefer Navionics). I could also stick with Garmin and they come with the Navionics map.

I don't want to replace the things that work, like the B&G Quad and Wind, I just want a GPS that will be easily compatible with those NMEA 0183 instruments.
