Re: MISSING 75´s.y. LADY DOMINA
A Danish crew member was supposed to meet Lady Domina in The Azores and went there based on the 14 day prediction, but has now returned home. They will all need your prayers thank you.

Re: MISSING 75´s.y. LADY DOMINA
Thanks for your support Anne,I´m digging for all clues so I´m bound to step on a few toes. According to the news,Kati´s parents knows about the disappearance and are very worried about her. As you say they are somewhere in the Western Caribbean on Raven Eye.

Tore: Can you tell me where you received the news that Katy's relatives know about her being missing? If this is the case, I can stop looking for them.

Re: MISSING 75´s.y. LADY DOMINA
Collectively, I'm sure we all hope and pray for a good outcome but as the days tick off it sounds grimmer and grimmer. The US is one of the few countries that don't require you present a Zarpe from your last port captain. Not sure how this would have made a difference in this case but Boatman has a good point... at least it gives some kind of documented leaving and arrival dates for concerned friends and family. Phil

Re: MISSING 75´s.y. LADY DOMINA
Anne... I am sure I read it in one of the Norwegian newspapers, otherwise, how would I know her parents had a boat in the Caribbean? But,by all means, keep looking for them.

Re: MISSING 75´s.y. LADY DOMINA
Annne..
Found the article in the Norwegian newspaparer the other day.
The English woman comes from the town of Stockport in Northwest England, and has been sailing in the Caribbean for ten years, says her brother Simon Lee.
-She has sailed with a lot of different boats and have extensive experience. I don't have much information about the case, other than that she was going to contact my mother when the boat reached the Azores, which I suppose would happen two weeks ago, said her brother told VG
Lee's parents are currently out on a boat in the Caribbean. The family was told of Katie's disappearance for not many days ago. In particular, the mother took the news of the daughter heavily.
-The information that Katie is missing at sea came as a shock. We are very concerned. We're hoping to get to hear something new, "said Lee.

How do we know they do not have comms/EPIRBS/radioes?
As for 'obligatory' (toys and procedures) I think YES if you carry passengers, NO if it is your own pleasure craft.
I hope they will get found much as I am aware they may not want to be found.
Correct me if I am talking rubbish.

The French flagged sailing vessel Grain de Soleil with a three man crew was also reported in distress and missing some 500 miles from the Azores.

Re: MISSING 75´s.y. LADY DOMINA
Barnakiel.. I agree with you to a point. I am not in favor of forced, constant surveillance, but I AM in favor of having an EPIRB or similar device on board which can be activated in emergency situations to let the SAR people know where you are.
All vessels should be obliged to carry such equipment as well as a valid fire extinguisher as a minimum safety precaution, and should be inspected periodically.
YOU may not care where or when your boat foundered but your wife and kids certainly wood.

I hope the boat will turn up safely, and that Tore and his silly ideas will stay on shore and away from my boat. I am responsible for my boat and the equipment it carries, and it will stay that way.
I only wish Tore would have stuck to a request for help instead of a Nanny like rant.

Re: MISSING 75´s.y. LADY DOMINA
I will never forget an old flight instructor who worked for me. After the twin he was instructing in had an prop go into feather he found the first field and put the plane down. Everyone hopped out to see if they could figure out what was the problem with the engine. They couldn't find one. Everyone hopped back in, they ran the engine up, she ran pretty good so they decided to try a field take off. They managed 100 feet off the deck when a defective prop regulator put the prop back into feather, which only happened as the oil temp headed skyward.
They crashed, and with tip tanks had fuel pouring down the wing into the cockpit. God and providence looked upon them the second time that day, they were able to get out of the plane without getting lit up.
The seasoned instructor later gave me this baffled look as he insisted he followed all of the right procedures. All I could do was shake my head and wonder where we write the 'common sense' procedure.
When a seasoned captain puts the lives of four other people on the line let's hope he did so with full appraisal of the risks. I kind of doubt that happened here. But then, making sure your passengers are petrified of your lack of common sense just doesn't seem very smart.
The reason people are raising alarms is the lack of common sense taking off in a boat with the likely problems and infirmities this boat suffered. Any fool can jump overboard and leave your ladder up, but it takes a royal fool to ask your passengers to follow you.

It certainly does sound like a high risk adventure, which is exactly what the captain advertised in Tore’s first post.
Hope they all make it, but in a ‘ship of fools’, I don’t really consider one crew member more foolish than another.
