My
boat has a
Raymarine 2K analogue radome with a C80 MFD. The MFD is on an arm that allows it to be swung out from the
cabin to the
companionway door. This means it can be seen when down below and from a
cockpit seat but it's difficult to read if I'm at the
helm. At the
helm I have a Standard Horizon 175C - it. works fine but doesn't support
AIS, even if sent from
VHF.
I'd like to replace both the C80 and the 175C with a binnacle-mounted charplotter that will also display
radar and display
AIS. Because the
radar is
Raymarine it seems I'm required to use a Raymarine MFD. The new generation of Raymarine MFDs don't support the old analog radar systems.
I do not want to replace the radar. so my question is: Does it make sense to upgrade to a more recent, but not quite
current, Raymarine C-series? Or, for less
money, should I just buy a new
Chartplotter and live with or move the C80?
