MaxSea PTZ Format

I am try to convert some data from a MaxSea 300b.ptz file into a format I can use. It was easy enough to convert the database to a text file but I am not certain how to convert the listed lat/lon into a useable state. My first thought was they were in radiuse but that does not seem to be the case. Anyone have a clue?

A couple of lines from the file. This should be around Boothbay Maine

I was able to figure it out a couple of years ago when I added the code to convert Maxsea to gpx kml to my program C2GPXKML that coverts various formats. You can get my program from the Downloads page of my website:

My C2GPXKML converts from Maxsea .ptf format and does not support the .ptz format. If you can convert the .ptz to .ptf format it should read it.

I suspect that the lat/lon are stored the same way in the .ptz file as they are in .ptf files and are simply not translated right when converted to text. If you could send me the original .ptz file I might be able to decode it properly.

Hello Paul,
I would like to extract some data from a ptf file I created in Maxsea some years ago.


I downloaded C2GPXKML and installed ooRexx, but when I run it I get the following message:


Trapped In..: RunSyntax
Message..: Unable to load library "GE2KAPFuncs"
ErrorText..: Execution error
Code..: 98.903
Line #..: 15


The GE2KAPFuncs.dll file is in the folder. Not sure how to proceed in order for it to work.


I appreciate any insight you can provide.

In case Paul doesn't see it soon, the dll's in his function are 32-bit (pretty sure from looking at them). Confirm that your ooRexx installation is 32-bit not 64-bit. The 64-bit ooRexx cannot run 32-bit dll's and the 98.903 error is what you will get if you try. There are other things that will cause the same error, but 32 vs 64-bit is quite common.

Thank you very much!! It seems that was the issue, I did have ooRexx 64-bit, I have just uninstalled in and installed the 32-bit version, and it seems to be working!

I no longer support ptf files in the C2GPXKML utility. I heard Maxsea no longer supports that format.
