Ipad navigation (google earth and navigation)

Hi all,
is there any app for the ipad you can recommend where it is possible to have navigation charts and google earth pictures?

Many Thanks,
Lasse

Re: Ipad navigation (google earth and navigation)

I've been using SeaIQ; in addition to the NOAA charts it can also use satellite imagery via VentureFarther (something I have not yet tried). It claims to support S-57, S-63, Inland ENC, and BSB/KAP formats for charts, but being in the US I have only had occasion to use the NOAA charts.

Navionics is a popular app and has an option to overlay satellite imagery onto their charts.

On land I use an app called GaiaGPS; it has map layers that include satellite imagery, NOAA charts, USGS Topos, and more. (The fancier subscriptions include NatGeo's Trails Illustrated maps, but I digress....)

Yes, SEAiq does this. You zoom into an area and ask for it to download a google earth image, which it can then overlay on the chart. Very nice feature indeed.

Of course, you need internet access to do this, but once loaded you don’t need internet access to be able to view the chart sections. I often pre-load images of marinas and potential anchorages before a passage.

You need a venturefarther account which is pretty easy to set up. I’m in NZ so use it exclusively with the official raster charts (which are all free here too)
