I use navionics on my iPad, it's not as good as a dedicated chart plotter. They have just realeased a new version which I'm yet to try out at sea. I think it's great value at around $50, and would recommend it.

I use mine around Fremantle and Rottnest. Haven't been able to fault it so far. Navionics has been very accurate for me.

Re: iPad for Navigation at Sea + Navionixs app
We have paper charts, laptops interfaced to gps, a
SiTex chart plotter, and an ipad (with iNavx) and we use the ipad for almost everything. We bought it as a backup but as it turns out the others are the backup now.

Thanks very much for the encouragement!! I haven't heard anything negative as yet..!! Are you familiar with the Navionics app? I'm not sure if iNavx is ok for East coast Australia, maybe you can enlighten me..! Cheers Harry

Re: iPad for Navigation at Sea + Navionixs app
the only thing I dont like about tablets is that they arent designed to be splashed etc. Unlike most plotters that can live quite happily at the helm and suffer rain and salt spray.

My I iPad with navionics by far trumps my dedicated chart plotter , so much faster and uses little power. Sailed over 5000km on the Queensland coast using just my iPad .
