How about using MX Mariner until there is native OpenCPN for Android? MX Mariner seemes to have an option for importing GPX files but I have not tried that optio. yet. MX Mariner, while somewhat limited compared to OpenCPN, is fantastic on an Android tablet.

Re: iOS or Android?

I have not. I have not really used my computer for navigation, I just use my chart plotter.

Me too.

I use OpenCPN on my computer (ASUS Transformer running Win 8.1) for planning and weather, a Garmin 740s as my primary chartplotter and MX Mariner on Android Samsung 7 as secondary chartplotter.

That said, we used MX Mariner as our chart plotter to navigate through Lakes Superior, Huron and Erie. Picked up the Garmin when we hit the saltwater in NYC.

Re: iOS or Android?

I am dying to get to Lake Superior. I grew up in Michigan and get to lake Superior every chance I get. Can't wait to sail there. I have been known (several times) to take the ferry from Copper Harbor to Isle Royal and back on the same day just to get out on the lake.

Lake Superior is spectacular, but very cold and remote. A little dangerous. Fall overboard and you are probably dead. Sailing across Lake Superior in the early Spring was an absolutely awesome experience. The rest of the great lakes felt a little unfulfiling after Lake Superior. I wish I could sail Lake Superior every year.

Bill (LakeSuperior in CF) knows the US side. Good guy, we met him in person. Mike O'Reilly seems to know the Canadian side. The guys at Barker Island Marina in Superior, WI know the lake well amd several of the staff participate in the annual Trans-Superior.

Best of all the Crealock 34 is a great Lake Superior boat. Make sure you have a good heater!

Amazon.com: Sailing with iPhone and iPad (Smartphones and Tablets on board) eBook: Patricia Brizuela: Kindle Store

I hope this will be useful to someone.
