We have a Northstar M84 chart plotter equipped with gps, sonar and radar. The problem is, last year the card reader would not longer read properly, and soon after, the screen stopped working. We have searched high and low for a replacement screen or repair facility with no avail. We are hesitant to invest large amounts of money in buying a new system as we are headed down to the Caribbean in the summer to do humanitarian work and are trying to raise funds for relief supplies, etc.

We do have a couple laptops, and were wondering whether there are any software programs that could be used as a display for these systems?

Or is there a unit that could be used as a replacement display?

It looks like the m84 display unit is still available for less than usd$500. You could run opencpn on your laptop to get charting, but not the radar and sonar.

Thanks Paul. Where did you happen to see the display for $500? All the sites I've looked at day it's discontinued.

I had looked at the OpenCPN but thank you for confirming my suspicions, that it doesn't display radar or sonar.
