How late is too late to cross the Atlantic East to West?

Most boats cross to the Caribbean from the Canaries beginning in late November. Some wait until the Christmas trades have really set in and leave in January.

But the question remains how late can you wait to cross? Hurricane season begins on June 1 so that in my mind is a clear stopping point but when do the trades begin to diminish to the point that the voyage is really lengthened beyond the 16-21 days that is generally expected? And are there other considerations that should influence a spring crossing?

the trades continue till May -- so I think the latest would be leaving around mid April--if it was me--

The only other consideration I have thought of is getting out of the Caribbean before hurricane season. Leaving in mid April should leave me most of May to do it so that works too. Here is a very interesting site Climatology of Global Ocean Winds - COGOW
