How can I show boat position on a website using satphone
I'm trying to figure out of there is a way to show my boat's position, on a website map that other people can look at, using email or text position reporting from my Inmarsat Isatphone. Can anyone help?
Apologies if this is a dumb question that I should already know the answer to. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think Iridium offers this with some of its devices, but apparently not Inmarsat (but I could be wrong). I would assume that there's a website that offers this service for a subscription fee, but my Google skills aren't good enough to find it...

The spot works great for my Facebook friends. But the increase in price is ridiculous.

You could always just send a link to google maps in the following format:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/48°42.3'N+123°17.2'W
It will be up to your friends/family to save the locations if they want to see a trail build up.

Perhaps they could follow you via AIS if you have a transmitter.

There is a phone app that puts your position on MarineTraffic.com, would that do?

Hmm. I don't think so. I'll be thousands of miles from the nearest phone connection. The idea is that the service would receive a position update via text from my Inmarsat satellite phone.
I guess there's no way to do this. It's one of those things that I assume is easy but come to find out it's not -- without buying a different satellite service, at least.

Ships have a transponder that Marine Traffic, Vessel Finder, and other services pick up for their position. Just like fleet managers keep track of their trucks. I don't know how cheap it is, but not as expensive as satellite internet.

Apologies, I misread the title. I thought it said cellphone not satphone. I promise to read more carefully next time.

I think that's an option. However, on Marinetraffic.com they have some fine print about AIS-B not being as effective for offshore (i.e., satellite detection). It might not work at all. I have no idea how long they delay the position. If I read their website correctly, they do that even for super costly subscriptions.
I think I'll give up on this. Of course I can send my position to people ashore, but it'd be nice if that position could be automatically transferred to a position on a world map (like Google map). I still think that someone must have created such a website, maybe just for the fun of it...

We offer SMS tracking with a SAT phone and one of our optimizers. Your position gets sent out once per hour to a website that you can navigate to. You can give this website out to family or friends or anyone you want to share your position with. Check out our website: RedPort Tracking | Satellite GPS Tracking | GMN

Thanks. How does this work exactly? Is one purchasing some software to put onto a computer, which then talks to the "Optimizer" device? Or does one someone download software to the optimizing device? It's not clear to me what happens after purchasing the subscription (which I take is over $200 for a six-month subscription).
Thanks again.
