Re: great dismal swamp in winter

BOAT DRIVER
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for such a reasoned and professional response. I am not sculling but working my way south with some experience and I do not believe I have ever read a more informative submission on this site. I respect your advice and am hoping to work into the southern Chesapeake down to Elizabeth city within the week. I do not have access to next weeks forecast but your submission is so concise I will try to tuck in against the sea-wall as you describe before the next cold front. Thank you BobV

I'd plan to hunker down for a while at least. Spring will be here before you know it.

Re: great dismal swamp in winter

Are there any regular larger vessels using Dismal Swamp route who will break up the ice? We we went through I do recall much commercial traffic, but others reading would know better.

There is no commercial traffic on the dismal, it all runs on the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal.

I stopped at the Pungo Ferry Bridge today, MM29 on the A&C. Still froze solid. There is a sail anchored & frozen in on the edge of the channel about a mile north and a powerboat tied off closer to the bridge.

Re: great dismal swamp in winter

Well we have gone through some interesting effects of weather in the past week.
Has anyone got any new info on whether (weather) the ice is off of the swamp or the A&C canal.
There are people coming down the Chesapeake who could use some fresh info. For myself I am not leaving 'till next week as injectors are out of the engine.
Thank you for all the good people who keep us all updated.
