GPS and Raymarine E180 plotter

The GPS is not communicating with the chart plotter. Someone, on cruisers forum, said it could be the battery in the GPS. I don't think there's a battery on the hard-wired GPS, is there?

Is it more than likely, that there's a connection in the line of the GPS that's not correctly connected?

Or, is there something that needs to be done, in the plotter settings, to find the GPS.

Thnak you.

Re: GPS and Raymarine E180 plotter

What is a Raymarine E180?

The older C70, C80 and E120 do indeed have a battery in the Raymarine GPS antenna 120 or 125 model. It is a simple enough job with a set of small screw drivers and new CR 2032 batteries. Ours last about 5 years and we have done it twice now.

The battery is there for the unit to remember the Almanac.
If it’s dead, it will still work, just every start is a cold start and the Almanac will have to be downloaded before a fix can be acquired, so it will be stupid slow getting its first fix, but work fine after that, until you turn it off again, then another stupid long start up.

Most GPS have a page where you can see the time and date, if the Almanac has been erased, that time and date will be Way off, like years off.
