Google Earth V7 Filling HDD

Warning: Google Earth V7 has a problem that can cause your hard drive to fill up. Its a known problem as described here:

http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/earth/vJcVK2M9g7U

It got me and and another user amoung the cruising community here at Isla Mujeres Mexico. It produces thousands of files of 2K in:

C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth\unified_c ache_leveldb_leveldb2

As of this date there does not seem to be a fix except to drop back to V6.2.

BTW The AppData folder is Hidden so to check it turn on View Hidden Files.

Re: Google Earth V7 Filling HDD

Thanks for the warning Paul. I have reduced the cache 10GB and selected NO 3D.

Will see how it goes.

Re: Google Earth V7 Filling HDD

Tore,

It doesn't seem to be affected by the GE cache parameters and I had the 3D turned off and still got the problem. Deleting the cache did not delete any of the files in the bad folder.

You still might want to check that folder:

C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth\unified_c ache_leveldb_leveldb2

if it has 1000's of files you might want to stop GE, turn off your recycle bin for the drive, then delete all the files in that folder. It gave me back over 100Gig. Don't forget to turn your recycle bin back on.

Your system won't see a problem until the drive becomes less than 1G.

Re: Google Earth V7 Filling HDD

Paul.

Since re-installing everything after my PC total re-install/repair I have forgotten how to open open permission to my Appdata directory.
My Win 7 is in Portuguese as well which does not make it easier.

Re: Google Earth V7 Filling HDD

Tore,

Well here is an English explanation:

- Well in C:\your userid\ click the button in the upperleft in English called "Organize" and select "Folder and Search Options'
- Click View
- In the "Advanced settings:" find "Hidden Files and Folders"
- Check the "Show hidden files and folders"
- Click OK
- You should now see the "AppData" folder so go to

\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth\unified_c ache_leveldb_leveldb2

and see how much space it is using by clicking "Properties"
