Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Using latest version of ge2kap on XP. Trying to create charts from GE using the kmz feature. I enter path to kmz but it gets greyed out when I check tiles check box. I am warned only one chart will be created

r.fairman, The Tile feature and the Path/Polygon feature are mutually exclusive you can only do one of them. Leave the Tile unchecked and enter the kmz file in the Polygon/path. If it doesn't work send me the kmz file and the GE2KAP.log to my email address that is in the Help.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

r.fairman,

I have uploaded a new version that corrects some problems. Please download and try it with your kmz file. If it only produces on chart you probably have not created the kmz file properly, please read the Help section Polygon Path Support especially how to set the range (height). If you still have problems send the kmz and the log.

Get new version at: Index of /Downloads and click on
GE2KAP.V13.0.0.24

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I am a fisherman from Maldives. Few weeks before I have purchased a Raymarine Dragonfly. According to the manual and specification it only supports LightHouse Vector and Raster Charts, Navionics Silver, Gold and HotMaps. Unfortunately LightHouse Vector and Raster Charts does not have Maldives or Indian Ocean. Also Navionics Gold or Silver is not accurate and there are many many flaws in the map of Maldives.
Therefore I am trying to find a way to convert google or bing map to a file system that supports in Raymarine Dragonfly which is (.rx5). I have already updated OS to Lighthouse II v10.
By googling I have find out about this great website with genius people. I hope that someone could assist me with this. Please!

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

xyno,

GE2KAP only produces charts in .KAP or .KML format but I will download some of the DragonFly NOAA charts to see if there is a way around this as I am always looking at ways to improve GE2KAP. Will let you know.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

xyno,

It seems the .rx5 format is a Raymarine secret format and I can not find any utilities or documentation that will tell me the how to create it.

Perhaps you can ask Raymarine if there is a way to convert a .kap chart to .rx5 they obviously know how to do it. Let me know if they provide anything

Sorry

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

GE2KAP.V15.0.0.0 is now available

It fixes some probelms with V14 creating charts from Polygons or Paths and also much faster tiling opencpn and Polygon/Paths.

Also it removes the need to set Google earth to Decimal degrees and has a much faster typing test.

You can get it here:

Index of /Downloads

then click on GE2KAP.V15.0.0.exe

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP -- cm93 Offsets

When creating KAP charts the GE2KAP program calculates the amount of offset that was necessary to make the cm93 chart coincide with Google Earth. Using this information to make the cm93 offsets for display in OpenCPN is the subject of this tutorial.

Enjoy.

KAP from SASPlanet GE cache??

Hello there,

I have just stumbled onto this thread and only read the last page, so I apologise if this has already been discussed here or elsewhere. Please let me know if the topic has been raised before.

I use a program called SASPlanet that stores GE images (+Bing and many other map onlive versions) in its own cache. All you have to do is look at them, zoom in and out and they are stored on your PC.
They become available offline for use when at sea etc.
  1. Is there a way to use these 'off-line' charts to create KAP files to use in OPENCpn?
  2. Can GE2KAP be used from SASPlanet rather than GE?
  3. Is anyone able to write a program to do that?

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Sorry been away. Yes there is a very easy way to create a chart from whatever is displayed on SasPlanet using GE2KAP:

- First select an area, use CTRL+A to select the whole display or select a smaller area using the selection tool.
- This will bring up the Selection Manager, select the Stitch Tab
- In the Output format select JPEG
- In the "Save to:" enter the location and name for the .jpg
- In the "Create Geo Referencing file:" click "kml"
- Press Start, this will create the .jpg and the kml file

Next start GE2KAP and enter the jpg in the overlay field, give it a location for the chart.
If you want to have just the chart without GE, check the
"Create chart from Overlay, Do not use Google Earth"
Press "Create Chart".

Then move the chart into an opencpn chart directory, Scan for new chart.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

As for your other question about GE2KAP using SasPlanet directly, it would be interesting because SasPlanet has so many sources for the charts including Google earth (though I can't seem to get it to use GE). The problem is how to automatically get the coordinates of the chart displayed using some sort of API or plugin, so far I have not found either. Will look further and let you know if I find anything.
