I may have it backwards. But the way I understand it, if it reads out the True bearing, then it already compensates for local variation. I just know the course does not correspond to my other nav apps or chartplotter.

True does not adjust for variation. It physically points to a slightly different north than magnetic. Magnetic north drifts and requires deviation entered to compensate for this.

You can't activate a route. Only plan them and follow them.... Even if you spend the money on the charts.
Damn waste of money then as Navionics is the same price.... And actually navigates.
Absolute pity because the program functions nicely, zooms and scrolls very quickly and smoothly....
Cotemar, can you check yours, you bought the charts? Can you activate a route?

I have been using Garmin Blue Chart all year. it tracks, records, plans. tells you where you are all the time. can't talk to the autopilot but so what? it does all I need to see.

I also need, and don't have it BCM:
- not exchange WP and Route, You can't prepare route on computer
- weather receive just online
- not integrate with AIS (exclude Garmin proprietary)

Re: Garmin's BlueChart Mobile for iPhone and iPad
Currently I am using Garmin Bluechart Mobile with the Bluechart Explorer charts here in the Bahamas. This works out fairly well. I love the Explorer charts, but I am considering switching to INavX. Question is, will I be able to use the Garmin Bluecharts with the iNavX, or will I need to switch over to Navionic Gold charts as well?

INavx not work with Garmin charts.
The best for iNavx - navionics

Unfortunately, they just released a new version with the same poor app store reviews. Don't spend money on the charts or AC until they fix these issues!

PS this is on an iPhone 4S and iPad 2, with latest iOS.

In fairness I thought I would give an updated opinion. After a few major revisions, I've found this app to be much improved, and is my go-to app for Active Captain information. It is also MUCH more stable. I still like the Navionics app for navigation, but the Garmin app makes a great backup and source of second data for us.

Re: Garmin's BlueChart Mobile for iPhone and iPad: Premium weather
I downloaded BlueChart mobile to my Ipad in early summer of 2015 and have been using it for route planning for a trip in the windwards. The active captain interface has been great for that. It also had free grib downloads and overlays of the wind arrows on the chart, nice. The premium weather option was not yet available. Today, I opened my BlueChart Mobile and guess what? The nice grib download is gone, but I can now buy premium weather for $5.00 a month or $30.00 a year. I would buy it, but it is not clear whether it covers the windwards. Anyone have the premium weather yet?

Garmin's BlueChart Mobile for iPhone and iPad
Free Gribs are still there under "chart options" - "weather" - "grib".
I just downloaded this, so don't know where it was before.

Ahh yes, you're right. I had to re-activate the Gribs. Thanks.

Re: Garmin's BlueChart Mobile for iPhone and iPad
Bump.
The Blue Chart app indicated that Premium Weather was available. I bought 2 months for $9.99 through the app and the Apple Store. But nothing happened. Has anyone successfully activated and used the Premium Weather?

Re: Garmin's BlueChart Mobile for iPhone and iPad
Update:
It took a few hours, but the Premium Weather started working on Blue Chart. It's pretty cool, it overlays clouds, radar, lightning and weather station info right on the chart.
