Following the US Marines

The intention of this post is to explain how a logical sailing route turned out to be a tribute to fallen US Marines who sadly did not complete the route!

After a month of fixing the boat in Guam we are ready to head north to Japan. We are treating ourselves to two days scuba diving before we leave. The journey north from New Zealand has followed the path the US Marines followed towards Japan...We started at a memorial near Wellington New Zealand to Marines who died in training and went north through Fiji to Tarawa to the Marshals to Truck to Guam. In a week we will pass Timian from where 'Enola Gay' took off and then Iwo Jima and anchor in Chichi Jima where George Bush Senior was rescued, other US airmen we less fortunate and were executed by the Japanese. From Chichi Jima we go to Hiroshima...the following of the military route to Tokyo is not deliberatly a tribute to the fallen Marines it is just that it remains the logical 5,500nm route to Japan.
