Fog Signal Recording

Anyone know of a source for mp3 recording of fog signals? Something with a long blast and 2 minutes of silence that could be played on repeat...

Google turns up a bunch of hits, but I didnt listen to them. Also could just use a sound recorder app on a smart phone to capture what you want.

My SH vhf has a fog horn function with hailer, I thought it was 2 blast and a 2 minute wait to repeat. Could be a failing memory from only using it a few years ago when I installed the hailer speaker.

I was looking at a Standard Horizon hailer, but it occurred to me that I already have an impressive set of speakers / amplifier. One $2 mp3 download could save me $300 of new gear. The old tin horn I used in Alaska this summer gets old...

Got an iPhone? Open up Garage Band, make the track you want.

One great advantage to using the SH hailer - it is up on on the mast, aimed out over the water. Your cockpit speakers are aimed in at you.

If you can't find what you want, get any clip of a suitable horn and use freeware like Audacity to simply cut-n-paste the clip until it is long enough, then add the silence to it, and tag the mp3 to repeat itself.

Audacity can be a bit of a learning curve (lots of functions) but sometimes the setup goes simply, and the program can do pretty much anything that professional recording software will do.

Worst case, find a clip of a horn, I'll run it through Audacity and send it back to you.
