Eric Bauhaus The Panama Cruising Guide help

Hello all,

Having a bit of a nightmare here in Puerto Rico trying to find Eric Bauhaus, The Panama Cruising Guide.

Can't find it anywhere, one place can order it but it'll take 2-3 weeks he said.
We were planning on leaving for San Blas in 3 days but I'm very worried about heading down there without this guide.

Does anyone know where you can buy it as a PDF / Kindle / iBook?

Failing that does anyone who has a copy want to sell it to me, rip the san blas pages out and scan them over?

I honestly buy all the cruising guides as we've sailed thus far but this one is proving a really pain in the rear to get hold of.

Any help on this would be very welcomed. And if you do have a copy you want to sell please get in touch via PM, or email me at: mail(at)simonpickard.com

Thanks in advance,
Simon

If you are going to Panama and checking in at Bocas the Bocas marina had them when we were there.

Any cruiser down there will gladly let you have a look at their copy and either take notes or photocopy the relevant sections. I'd recommend also the Panama Guide by Tom Zydler--it's far and away the best cruising guide to anywhere I've ever seen. I used it instead of Bauhaus (that one wasn't written yet when we first cruised Panama), and it is a real work of art.

Hi Tried West Marine. Both of them here. They both said it would be two weeks before they could get them in stock. Not sure if that's just to cover themselves?

I've asked every other person in the marina but none of them are heading that way so don't have the guide.

I'll take a look at the Tom Zydler guide. Maybe that's on kindle.

A couple of things

Try bluewater books -- they maybe able to get you one quickly

Second we found Zydler out of date, wrong in a couple of places, incomplete and when compared to Bauhaus not even in the same ballpark. There is a ton of shallow water there and you need the best possible and that is Bauhaus period.

good luck -- OH and never ever go in anywhere in the dark there. We know of 3 boats that were lost there this year and at least one decided to go in in the dark and missed the channel by just a little bit and hit the reef = go by boat. It is a lot of eye ball navagation.

Re: Eric Bauhaus The Panama Cruising Guide help

Good news. We contacted 'landfall' this morning who were kind enough to arrange overnight shipping from the U.S. The postage was almost as much as the guide but it should be with us tomorrow!

Woohoo!

Hi, I'd be curious to know in what places Zydler was wrong--be nice to pencil a correction into my copy. As for incomplete--there's no doubt it's aging, and new marinas and services have sprung up, but coral moves slowly, and we found all his chartlets to be spot on. Still, if you found them off, it'd be nice to know whereabouts, since I rely on them heavily for eyeballing my way around.
Thanks
Ben

The Panama cruising guides are packed away and buried somewhere on the boat here along with the rest of our caribbean stuff. It will take a bit of digging to find them. But I do remember when we were there we had both and after a couple of stops just put Zydler away as we could not rely on it or it's detail.
