Electronic charts for Gulf of St. Lawrence

I am looking for electronic charts from Quebec City to Newfoundland suitable for OpenCPN.

Re: Electronic charts for Gulf of St. Lawrence

Official CHS raster charts (beautiful but pricey):
https://www.charts.gc.ca/charts-cart...blernc-eng.asp
Purchase chart set from dealer, then download from CHS site:
For example:
https://ca.binnacle.com/pages.php?CDpath=3&pID=1

OR:

O-Charts (CHS vector, at a reasonable price):
http://o-charts.org/map/en/CA/index.html

I installed the o-charts version. You get a license for 2 devices.

Not used yet... Ontario border is closed ;-(

From where? My understanding is that they are outdated and no longer available ;-(

The o-charts was only 20 Euros, but it would be good to have a backup / alternative...

I still have a old copy, but you are right 20 Euros is not expensive. Are they up to date?

I don't know. The web page says "Canada 2021 - Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence River"

If you know of any recent changes, let me know and I'll power up my Raspberry Pi and check.

Re: Electronic charts for Gulf of St. Lawrence

O-charts are very up-to-date (they can be updated monthly for CHS charts.

CM93 (2012 is last/latest that can be used in OpenCPN) can be VERY OUT-of-date. Certainly the case here in British Columbia.

I prefer Canadian raster charts, at least I used them for all the Great Lakes and they are miraculously great even though some of them are based on early 1900 cartography.

I have both CHS Raster charts AND O-charts vector charts. Both fully up-to-date. Both work very well in OpenCPN.

Yes, I too PREFER CHS raster charts.

Here in British Columbia, bathymetry is mostly based on much more recent soundings (many within past 10 years).

However, O-Chart vector have some other positives, as well as being much less expensive than CHS raster. I like them too.

An oddity with o-charts Vector based on CHS vector: CHS apparently did not include "all" of the old fathom-based charts of BC (there some missing from Haida Gwaii, even though they ARE included in CHS raster packages).

CM93 is really not appropriate option for Canada.

Re: Electronic charts for Gulf of St. Lawrence

Just downloaded and installed the charts from O-chart.org.

The link that I had bookmarked was bad. I almost bought the CHS raster charts. But for all the charts that I wanted the price was about C$800. I could buy those that I was planning to use this years for C$250.

I gave O-chart.org a other try but I tried this link:

https://o-charts.org/?lng=en

I was able to get the Canada East coast for €20.

Thank you again for the info.

Re: Electronic charts for Gulf of St. Lawrence

Just for fun, I checked my up-to-date charts from o-charts against the CHS Notices to mariners update from last month. For example, there are 2 new buoys in the Gulf: https://www.notmar.gc.ca/corrections-fr.php?chart-carte=4024&date1=2021-12-01&date2=2022-01-29

I checked my chart, and they're there. So I thinkthe o-charts charts must be amongst the most up-to-date you can get.

I also checked navionics and c-maps and neither of them has these new buoys.
