Electronic charts

We are planning to cross the Atlantic and at a later stage sail in the Pacific . Related to the navigation tools to be used we are thinking about :
* PC with navigation software linked to a GPS
* Chart plotter linked to GPS in- & outside
* AIS linked to both PC & plotter
* Radar with overlay on the PC
* MOB electronic positioning linked to PC & plotter

A few things are unclear at the moment :

* is there any supplier who has this kind of equipment in an integrated way
* what kind of electronic charts are there with pro & con's . Are they covering the whole world
* can electronic charts be used on PC & plotter or do we need to purchase two different sets
* is a radar really needed or is a good GPS & AIS sufficient
* any idea on the pricing
* how difficult is the installation
Many thanks

Jan

Hi Jan,

Raymarine. And that will integrate with your Auto Pilot too.

Start using Google Earth too.

Full kitting out a boat could keep you in the planning stage for years longer.
What would you prefer: 5 extra years at work or a gadget?

Get what you really, really need and go sooner
