I've ordered the
charts and am planning my trip to
motor sail my
boat from eddyville in western KY to Louisville, via the
Ohio river. In terms of bridge clearance, I seem to be fine with one possible exception. There is a vertical
lift railroad bridge in Louisville that is only 38 feet off the
water when the bridge is lowered.
How are these old bridges operated? This one is still in use by the railroad. Is there an operator on site?
what will I need to do if the bridge is down? Does it stay elevated until a train needs to cross?
