Cruising permit in French polynesia

For starters where could I find a good book which would answer the questions below. Also how to access the archives.
If a yacht enters French Polynesia at the Marquesas how long do they have before they are required to leave. Can the permit be renewed and what does it cost. What are the restrictions I'm going to more exotic land falls like the Gambiers.

Re: Cruising permit in French polynesia

Your local French Consulate should be able to get you the information. The requirements aren't written in stone and may change so wouldn't depend on anything in a book.

We got a 6 month visa before leaving LA. If you can do it, highly reccomend getting as long a visa as you can before leaving the US. With the visa you don't have to jump through hoops to keep renewing your permission to stay. Things are different now, but those arriving in the Marquesas, when we were cruising, had 90 days to get to Papeete to get a regular visa. We stayed in the Marquesas for 5 months and could have stayed longer. We spent a month in the Tuamotus on the way to Papeete but would have stayed much longer if we hadn't had to get to Papeete at the end of 6 months.

Suggest you use Noonsite with its descriptions and member attachments that will provide you with this this up to date info. Much of you questions depend your your nationality, boat reg, etc.
PS the French Consulate is unlikely to assist in this. This is readily available info. Check Noonsite.

If you are EU you can stay forever without a visa. For most everyone else you can obtain a 3 month visa upon entry that is not renewable. Not dependent on nationality the boat can stay 3 years before incurring duty(tax). Checking into the Marquesas, Gambiers, Australs or Tuamotus all are done easily by the Gendarmes.

If you want to apply for a long stay visa our write up on our website jacarandajourney.com in"Other Good Stuff". should help you answer all your questions. We have worked hard to keep it very current.

You can only apply and obtain a long stay visa outside of FP at a French consulate. The French Consulate does not have to be in your country of residence. Panama is the easiest to apply for a FP long stay visa.

Safe sailing
