Cruising in Italy's instep

Has anyone recently cruised in the instep of Italy, or more particularly from Reggio to Rocca Imperiale, and if so is it recommended? We will be there the last weeks of September. Prefer putting an anchor down where we can but happy to go into harbours when necessary. Also what is the rest of the instep like for sail cruising? Thanks for any suggestions.

Few years ago I did a delivery from Catanzaro/It to Croatia.
Can´t say that I want to visit south italian marinas again.

I've stayed in Reggios " marina" €50 for a night in a dump. Cheap hookers nearby though
