Converting Old Cap'n Routes

A while back I converted many old Cap'n routes into .gpx and I thought I'd finished the job. I now find that I'd like to recover many other such old routes, but it appears that loading my old Cap'n software is not possible due to difficulties with the current (or is it obsolete) provider of this software. Any suggestions?

Re: Converting Old Cap'n Routes

Never heard of this software. Maybe you could install one on an old machine and try converting one to gpx file. Or just upload a route in their format over here that you want converted.

Is it a route or recorded track?

Cap'n (Computerized American Practical Navigator) was one of the original navigation software packages. Dennis Mills developed it in the early 1990's and was one of the first to develop what became the raster chart display technology.

The problem is that the outfit that later purchased it (from Maptech) is no longer in business and it's not possible to load and register the software on a laptop at this time.

In any case I figured out how to get in there and convert the old routes (not fun, but instructive).

Re: Converting Old Cap'n Routes

I think my program C2GPXKML will convert Capn routes to GPX or KML format.
You can get from my website Sample on the Downloads page. The unzip password is phiggins Read the README_C2GPXKML file.

Or you can send me a file and I can see it will convert. PM your email and I will send you mine.
