Charts, South Pacific

Any good avises on charts for crossing the Pacific (Panama/Nicaragua-Galapagos-Fiji). B/W copies any good? 2/3 size charts liekwise as good? Where and what to buy if you already have Digital mapping for everything, exclusive Galapagos?

Any experience witht the packages found on:

We cruised Panama to NZ via FP, Cooks, Tonga with mostly xerox copies (made while in Panama - 1.2 USD per full size copy) and electronic back up - it is either empty space or so much coral you go by the eye.

Used French charts, US some UK too. In my opinion French and US best, UK just soso.

and guide books

PS there are plenty of guide books that help a lot in planning and are fun to read, e.g:

- Landfalls of Paradise,
- Pacific Crossing Guide,
- Pacific Anchorages,
and so on.

We also had a copy of something called (I believe) Charlie's Charts and it sucked. Also, in 1000 Pacific Anchorades the sketches were .... well, just sketches, but I can still recommend this book.

Cheers,
barnie
