Cape Town to Annapolis in August and Sept.

We will be leaving C.T. around the end of this month or first of August for Annapolis, Md. Delivering a new SF50. I am aware of the season. The boat is fitted out with all the Nav electronics and AIS. Can you seasoned sailors give me some positive thoughts, ideas or strategy on this crossing. I am not the captain but one of 3 crew. The captain has made this trip before but not in this season. I know his thoughts; may I have yours.

Hi Beemer,
Have you guys left St Francis Bay yet?
Does Odyssey have a satellite tracker on board so we can follow your journey ?

Re: Cape Town to Annapolis in August and Sept.

If you are already aware that your traveling across the middle of the Atlantic in the middle of the hurricane season then I'm not sure what more you're asking. Positive thoughts, no I can't think of any. I would just say it's pretty risky and I wouldn't do it, not on that schedule.

About the best I can say is odds are that you will probably make it and probably won't get hammered.

If you are determined to go then make damn sure the boat has really good weather information including a backup system and good communications, either sat phone or SSB or preferably both.

Most important I would make sure there's an EPIRB or two and a good liferaft.
