Boot key

Dear all,

I would like to anchor in boot key harbor in marthon, quick question how to get in via sister creek or through town ? If going through town I saw on the map that there's a bridge, does it open and at what time? I draw 5ft and my mast is 70ft.
Thank you for your help

Re: Boot key

It's been awhile since I have done this. The "main" entrance has wires with a supposed height of 65', however, the wires sag in warm weather, and can be less. The bridge is gone. With a 70' stick you won't make it. I have passed through Sister Creek with 5.5' draft at high tide. That, however was before the recent hurricanes. Hurricanes move a lot of sand.

Re: Boot key

I have anchored at the entrance to the main channel going into the harbor, but there is no protection from West wind. This time of the year a West wind would be rare.

Re: Boot key

We went through Sister Creek a couple of weeks ago. The shallowest we saw near high tide was 5.5 ft. Our draft is 4 ft.

Re: Boot key

Anchor outside, before the bridge. Dinghy in from there.

West wind is forecasted tomorrow this is why the question.

Ecos, is there enough room to anchor before the bridge, on the map it looks tight. I draw 5ft. Thank you

Re: Boot key

Anchor out off Knight Key, the shallows and bridges to the west will block any swell from west winds in summer. Actually, you will want the west wind to keep the no seeums on shore away from you and get you a cool breeze to sleep at night
