I'm saying as far as the costs involved in boat ownership go, paying a annual subscription for Navionics or the ones suggested, above is a drop in the ocean, literally.
I do have a handheld Garmin, but it's more utilitarian and not much fun to play around with on land.

Re: Best Free Android Charting Software

Maybe I don't have something set right in OpenCPN, but take a look below at the Cuttyhunk entrance channel. The raster has the important warning "5 FT SEP 2018" and the label "Jetty" that I don't see on the vector chart. Last summer I watched many people go aground in the channel. I suppose that depth warning may have been removed deliberately, but there should be some depth warning there.
My previous comment above turns out to be misleading with regard to this particular raster chart vs. the vector ENC chart. I just took the channel the other day and apparently it has been dredged over the winter. I went in near high tide and saw nothing less than about 12 feet, indicating to me that the controlling depth is likely to be around 8-9 feet at low tide. I believe I went right over the area where there were depths less than 6 feet last summer. So, apologies! In this particular case, the chart warning from 2018 on the raster chart is no longer accurate.
