Anyone able to get their hands on Admiralty Chart 5308 (World Sailing Ship Routes)

Hi everyone,

Like many, I have dreams of someday cruising the world. I’ve been reading a fair bit lately and this chart has come up. I’d love to get my hands on it to frame on my wall as a constant reminder of my goal, and to commit the routes to memory.
My local supplier no longer has this chart available. I know I can download a high res image from Wikipedia and have that printed, and I will do that as a last resort, but I’d really like to track down an original. Condition doesn’t matter much for this purpose.

Thanks all!

For anyone who DOES want the 20,013 × 10,427 pixels JPEG file (35.49 MB), it's here:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/F...ished_1946.jpg

FWIW, playng around with brighness, contract and saturation in Irfanview gave me a much better version than the original

You might try Maryland Nautical at mdnautical.com

They have a pretty good selection, including historical charts. I'm sure you could find one that would inspire.

I have something similar on my wall, it's NGA chart 120 of the Atlantic, as my first step is going to be a circle of the Atlantic.

I have the 1973 edition of Ocean Passages For The World which has 5308, 5309, and other charts included. (folded in cardboard pocket) in original slipcase protected with clear "contact paper" (book and slipcase). All little used and in very good condition. I purchased it new and if you are interested in it drop me a pm.

Think 1973 last time they were included in Ocean Passages. I Use to work on ships I know they were a pretty image, they always got lifted and taken home.

Sailor_Ed I would like your book with its charts but so would others, could I ask you to get your chart scanned to high Res and make it available, before it disappears never to be seen again. I saw the image from StuM but its not what I remember, more recent is more pretty.

Re: Anyone able to get their hands on Admiralty Chart 5308 (World Sailing Ship Routes

Ocean Passages of the World is one of my most treasured possessions and the first place I go before even Cornell when thinking about the “grand” plans. I have a copy of the 3rd edition (1973). The maps are only in fair condition, they’ve spent more than 20 years on a small boat. If Sailor_Ed can’t get his scanned I’d be willing to see if I can iron out the wrinkles and take mine to the blueprint place.

Is this the one (pardon the crap quality) you remember?

Dsanduril ^^^^ Think so, memory is tricky, was 45 years ago saw it for less than a minute. Do remember blue and a big ACW curve to get into central Pacific from Aus & NZ.

Re: Anyone able to get their hands on Admiralty Chart 5308 (World Sailing Ship Routes

No worries, it sounds like I'm sorted! Thanks anyway.

If your last time in Vancouver was 40 years ago, I'm afraid you might not recognize it, especially Gastown. Our homelessness problem is completely out of control, and the opioid epidemic has made it much worse in the last few years. A lot of that is concentrated right around Gastown. It's honestly devastating. In last year's count 2,095 people identified as homeless in the city. On top of drug addiction many of these people struggle with serious mental health issues. It's a problem unfortunately mirrored by many major cities in North America.

Sorry to bring things down so harshly.

That's an earlier version with the orange W->E routes (even older than the Wiki version linked above), not the later one with the blue routes.

It references "Ocean Passages, 1932" - The Wikipeida one references "Ocean Passages, 1950"
The blue W->E one is more recent than either.
