Re: AIS data sentences are scrambled

There is no mention of being able to set baud rate ion the unit itself in the manual .And i have been physically through ALL the settings multiple times and have not come across this either.
The "hardwired" nmea data output of the Unit is GPS - Auto pilot , echo sounder etc - on 4800 AIS on 38400, as stated in the manual. The baud rate is probably set by internal software.

I can’t find an English manual. But it looks like you can change the output. It will need to be on ais.

As I said before. Your photos are missing the vdm and vdo ais msgs.

Re: AIS data sentences are scrambled

What you are showing me is also in my English manual, BUT one cannot change baud rate
You can only choose the output: AIS or GPS or rem1 or rem2 or none

Re: AIS data sentences are scrambled

hello pendragon,

I have a similar problem with my HP-33A. I tried 3 different usb to RS232 adapters and all receive the same garbage:

Code:
'u'#'}+{ek=}mSwe''2'{'_i+ek7q_qq}'#'#'c'#6{66v{VvvV6k'u'#N#'lZZ5Vk7q_SWq'#>'W''e'#'c'#'i+eknq_qq}'#'#'c'#
'u'#'}+uek=}mSwe''''{'_RS}S'2'[Vv{VlZvlZ6v;VlZV,vK6vkvvKvv[6VlZ325dey=[}EeMKv[v{VlZ3YZvvkVvv[vlZ3eZllZV6v;vv[VlZYYZ3VlZVvKVvKvlZv6v;V6-vVk7q_qYS'''
_u'#'}+}ek_[*WVZvkv;k[e#'i+eV7q_qq}'#'#'c'##''F'#'c'#kVl4uuufvUic%3o'+yek[}m)ekVvvV6{vvk+Vv6{66v{VvvV6k'u'#>'#'
'u'#'}+ek=}mSwe''''}'_c'#'i+ek7q_qq}':#'#'c'#2#'#'c'#{6{vvkVlVVVlZZ5V,^=[}M]E{6{fv;u;+
I received this with "screen /dev/ttyUSB0 38400,cs7" with the unit directly connected to the computer. No other hard- or software between. It is the same output with TX and GND or only TX connected, or with GPS Baudrate 4800 output.

There are no more options left I think and the unit could probably be faulty.

Re: AIS data sentences are scrambled

I get the AIS targets displaying on screen, the collision alarm works fine, all working OK, BUT the output via RX and gnd is scrambled, there seems to be no solution to be found on this forum, apart from re- flashing the unit.
Problem is I don't have the software nor do I have the hardware to upload same. -->I purchased the newer model and hope it lasts a bit longer than the last one.

Re: AIS data sentences are scrambled

We had error messages/incomplete AIS sentences w/a 232 cable and ended up being a ground loop problem. Even though it may be set up correctly/as suggested, check the voltage on the wires at the connection.
We tried changing baud rates, connections, etc. and was very frustrating until we inadvertently found the problem was in the wiring (even though it was set up as diagrammed). Looking back, a fairly simple fix when you knew what you were looking for.

Thank you for your reply Bill,
how can I check if there is a ground loop problem?
