Which Anchor for Gulf Coast: Orange Beach Area?

Wondering what type and size anchor would work best in gulf coast (Orange Beach) area for a 1984 Catalina 30 tall rig???? Just recently relocating new( to us) boat to area, and existing is WAY too small for this boat. Thanks for help.

Welcome to CF

25-30lb. plow type anchor in the GoM. It could be a CQR, Manson, etc.

Add in Good charts, so you don't drop the hook next to an oil/gas pipe line... Not all of them are buried.

What sort of seabed is it there?
In some seabeds a few of the old school anchors will embarrass the new generation ones.

We enjoyed your area with our Hunter 30 many years ago, and plan to revisit next year. I used a 30# CQR in the sand, mud and grass beds that you will be anchoring in. My preference is now a Delta - which I've been very satisfied with while cruising our Leopard 42 in the Western Caribbean - a much more challenging area for anchoring. The mfr sites will have size guides - I would up-size to whatever I was comfortable handling and storing.
